Education & Training

Let us help you advance in your current career or begin a new one in healthcare.

Preparing for Your Stay

An important factor about your stay is that you will be very busy in therapy throughout the day. Our team approach allows us to intensely rehabilitate you and quickly improve the skills you need to return home. The average length of stay is 12 days, with some patients staying as little as 5-8 days and others 16-20 days.

Your length of stay is driven by how your diagnosis has impacted you and how well you participate and progress in therapy. Our success is measured on your functional improvement and getting you back to the community.

Packing Your Bag

Since most of your day will be spent up and out of bed, comfortable clothes will be needed. Clothes should be machine washable. We suggest all clothing and other belongings be labeled to prevent loss. Personal items left behind after discharge will be held for three days then discarded. The following lists will assist you in packing:

Please let your nurse know if you bring hearing aids, dentures, glasses, or contact lenses so that they can be documented in your record. If you wear a hearing aid, please bring extra batteries. Please leave any unnecessary items of value at home.

Additional Clothing

If you are learning to use an orthotic or prosthetic device, bring shorts and short sleeve shirts depending on which limbs are affected. Shoes should have flat heels; a sturdy oxford with laces or sneaker with nonskid soles is preferable. Please ask your therapist before buying new shoes.

Electrical Appliances

If you bring an electric razor, radio or other electrical items, please tell your nurse, who will arrange for those items to be checked for safety.

Valuables

We advise you to keep no more than $5 on hand at any time. If you will be attending a community outing, you will be advised on any monies needed. We also ask that you not keep any valuables in your room. The hospital is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Medication

It is our policy that all medications for our patients are supplied by our pharmacy. We request that you do not bring any medications from home. If you do bring medications, notify your nurse at once. We will need a list of both prescription and over the counter medication you are taking. This will help us reconcile the medications that have been added since your hospitalization with ones you were already taking at home.
